In Borderlands there was this third-party program called "Willow tree" which enabled you to edit the save files or something, essentially letting you create loot that could be even better than what could be found in the game.

I guess you might be able to move saves, but starbound stores them as encrypted strings, so that's not really possible. I am wondering how character save data works. Is the "player" folder in the Starbound directory not the folder your character is saved at? I have multiple computers and often switch between depending on whether I am traveling, working, etc. and I copied the data over to play my character. It's probably not quite what you're looking for, but my Character Kickstarter mod will basically unlock everything that completing the story unlocks - all techs, all outpost stores open, full ship upgrade, and so forth. You can spawn it on a new character and just be up to speed immediately. Though it is a pretty huge cheat, so maybe give it a miss if that's not what you're looking for. Is there any way to download saves from other players? I had to transfer my backup disk to another computer only to find out that my starbound save did not get backed up at all! Is there a website where I can download another player's save data and play using that or is anyone willing to e-mail me their save data? I really am not too caring for.
